2025 Officials and Scorer's trainings

SSL has finalized their schedule for this season's training classes and they are set to begin next Monday, May 19th. Most classes will be virtual on Zoom and start at 7:00 PM. All Zoom links are provided in the SSL calendar:

Our team is required to provide officials for home and away meets. We need a Starter, Referee, Scorer, and Stroke & Turn officials for home meets. We also need Scorers and Stroke & Turn officials in attendance for away meets.

Please consider these trainings as we especially need more parents to learn Scoring and Stroke & Turn. Planning for these positions is necessary as swimmers and their families age out and move on.

Attendance at an SSL training class is required every year to work at SSL meets as the Referee, Starter, Chief Judge, or Stroke & Turn Official.

Scorers do not have to attend a class, but it is recommended that at least one Scorer from each club attend a Scorer class, at least as a refresher. There will be a hands-on Scorer class that is recommended for new Scorers. The Experienced Stroke and Turn class is for officials with 3 or more years experience in SSL or if the official is a certified YMCA or USA Swimming official.

The Saturday, June 7 in-water classes for Stroke and Turn officials and Starters do not count as the annual SSL training class. These classes are held for new and less experienced S&T officials to see swimmers in the water before the first meet. For the Starters, this is an opportunity to actually start swimmers in a simulated race.
